Jardine Motors Group

Jardine Motors Group was formed after Hong Kong’s Jardine Matheson acquired the Lancaster Group that was established in 1969. A large stake was purchased in 1981 and the complete sale went ahead in 1992. The decision was recently taken to head back to their roots and attach the Lancaster branding across their network. This has extended to the various dealerships they have acquired such as Appleyard, Abridge, Scotthall and Wayside. There has been no change on the web front with www.jardinemotors.co.uk still remaining in usage. This was the UK’s leading motor dealer by turnover at one point, but in the modern day they have lost out to the majors.

Things didn’t look so good back in 1999 when they posted a £5.1 million operating loss that had followed from the previous year when they were in the green by £15.1 million. Substantial losses were made at their Rover dealerships and their Appleyard Vehicle Contracts operation. They are today found in more than 70 locations and they are an authorised franchisee for 23 manufacturers. They represent the likes of Ferrari and Porsche, whilst McLaren London is one of their flagship branches in Knightsbridge. Volume sales are generated through the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen. Jardine Motors finance (or Lancaster Finance) is available on hire purchase and personal contract purchase plans.

Specifics surrounding the panel, terms etc aren’t shared and you can’t apply via www.jardinemotors.co.uk. There are forms that allow you to request information. Checks on a selection of used cars showed interest at 13%. There was plenty of promotions running on new cars. As an example there was currently a 0% deal available on the Seat Leon FR. For new luxury models the rate tended to sit just above 6%. On the web search there was just below 3000 results that should cover the group stock. For general support, their helpline is restricted to Monday to Friday (9am to 6pm). The dealerships studied were open 7/7 though. Sometimes Sunday was by appointment only.
