Last Update: September 29th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
The Fast Cash Company Store LoansThe Fast Cash Company offers a range of financial products through 3 shops each located across Essex. The specific locations are Canvey, Pitsea and Southend. The owner (Ranzell Ltd) also has a single shop nearby in Westcliff-on-Sea called Griffin Financial. Griffin however focuses on foreign exchange only, whilst the core brand delivers more choice. This includes cash for gold, cheque cashing, payday loans etc. There is also a Buy Back scheme ideal for those unable to qualify for their loan. They use www.thefastcash.co.uk for informational purposes. Perhaps in time they may extend to offer their loan on here. They are actually still relatively fresh on the scene having started up the business in 2014.

Cheque Centre Store Loans | www.chequecentre.co.uk

Last Update: December 6th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
Cheque Centre Store LoansCheque Centre was established in the year 1996. Whilst they had started out aligned with cheque cashing, they are today more of a one-stop shop offering loans, pawnbroking, travel money etc. A decade after formation in Edinburgh, this company was acquired by Axcess Financial Services Inc who are part of CNG Financial Corp. A few years later Axcess went on to acquire Cash Generator. The owner is mostly known for the Check ‘n Go brand who have more than 1000 stores scattered across the United States. Cheque Centre at its height had 433 stores and yet this network has amazingly shrunk down to just 53. The market leader (Money Shop) of course lost around 250.

Cash Generator Store Loans | www.cashgenerator.co.uk

Last Update: September 27th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
Cash Generator Store LoansCash Generator was founded by Brian Lewis in 1994. This Bolton business had launched not too long after their key rival (Converters) had arrived from Australia in 1992. Generator’s store network sits close to 190, having peaked years earlier just above 220. Around 70% are franchised. In comparison, Converters has just over 200 that has dropped from approx 230 shops. They are found in 700 locations worldwide. Cash Generator loans (online and store) are no longer available. They were instructed by the FCA in 2015 to stop lending due to historic irresponsible lending practices. One thing of note is that a small portion of their stores are built within existing Cheque Centre outlets and this sister company does lend.

The Money Shop Store Loans | www.themoneyshop.com

Last Update: December 6th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
The Money Shop Store LoansThe Money Shop was the dominant high street payday lender with 550 stores at their peak. Step forward to 2016 and this network has shrunk down to 300 that may still be the largest chain, but they had planned several years back to reach 1200. Their very first store was opened in Nottingham in 1996. The brand would later be acquired by DFC Global Corp (known then as Dollar Financial Corp) that was back in 1999. Other than www.themoneyshop.com, DFC also serves the UK online through Payday Express and PaydayUK. Offline, they also own 5 Suttons & Robertsons stores plus a branch of Duncanson & Edwards and also Robert Biggar (each in Scotland).

Cash Converters Store Loans | www.cashconverters.co.uk

Last Update: September 27th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
Cash Converters Store LoansDirect Cash Converters loans were made available online in 2015, only to have quickly been replaced in 2016 by H&T. Whilst they now act as a broker through www.cashconverters.co.uk they are still lending out of their own pocket through their stores that we’ll be examining in further data here. Their network is a sizeable one. They provide a complete list of each shop and so it was easy enough to count up 202 stores. There has been a few closures here since they have historically been found in 230 locations. Globally they have 700 properties spread out across 21 countries. This Australian business was established in 1984 with the local launch taking place in 1992.

XYLO Credit Cards | www.xylocreditcards.co.uk

XYLO Credit CardsWhen checking over the Vanquis Bank FCA licence page we spotted an army of trading names listed. The fresh unknown brands had no websites built for them, but there was an exception in the XYLO credit card that is available now through www.xylocreditcards.co.uk. This domain was only registered on the 31st March 2016 and so we can now report on 3 new credit cards launching in the 2016 year. The other 2 newcomers are Chrome that is another Vanquis release and ThinkMoney’s Card that is issued by Capital One. Interestingly, XYLO is neither a direct trading brand nor an affinity partner. Credit Benefit Services has took charge as they have done with Black Diamond.

Speedy Cash Store Loans | www.speedycashloans.co.uk

Speedy Cash Store LoansWe previously touched on the closure of the Speedy Cash Online Loans and will today discuss their retail network. Our local Speedy Cash store in Stockport was recently closed that wasn’t a big surprise considering that it was always empty. They have gone on to close 10 of their stores in total. This takes their network tally from 23 to 13. They have a branch in Birmingham and Nottingham, whilst every other store is bunched together around London. On a recent visit to www.speedycashloans.co.uk they informed of their online loans being suspended and things weren’t looking great. However, on the latest check-up they have handed the site with a major overhaul and now promote 2 loan products.

Chrome Credit Cards | www.chromecard.co.uk

Last Update: September 17th, 2016

Alternatives Submission:
Chrome Credit CardsThe Chrome card is a new project from Vanquis that was launched at www.chromecard.co.uk in March 2016. In this same year we saw XYLO that they issue (yet don’t promote themselves). Their past projects date to late 2014 through NEO, Origin and Original. This trio of brands came with no key features to help them stand out. This time around a low rate manages to do just this. Its interest rate at just 29.5% is the best deal available from this provider. Their past top offer was available through Aquis at 29.8%. As you can see, the rate drop hasn’t been significant. It would have been preferable to see them get a little closer to Tesco’s Foundation Card at 27.5%. Then there is Aqua’s Advance that starts at 34.9%, but this drops to 19.9%.

ThinkMoney Credit Cards | www.thinkmoney.co.uk

ThinkMoney Credit CardsThe ThinkMoney credit card was launched in June 2016. This will complement ThinkMoney’s personal account that has been a big success since it was released at www.thinkmoney.co.uk in 2002. This works like a basic bank account with a key difference being the monthly running charge of £17.50. The Group has a few projects on their roster. A familiar one that we have looked at in the past is Ocean Finance that they acquired back in 2012. This operates under Intelligent Lending Ltd. Ocean’s Card is issued by Capital One and so as you can probably guess this same partnership has been put forward here. This is not Capital One’s only affinity tag team noting Shop Direct’s Littlewoods and Very.
